Description:

The Old Waialua Sugar Mill in Waialua began as the Chamberlain Plantation in 1865, when brothers Levi Jr. and Warren Chamberlain first attempted to grow sugarcane on Oahu’s North Shore. After early struggles, the operation expanded in 1898 when Castle & Cooke built a modern mill, helping Waialua become one of Hawaii’s major sugar producers. The mill remained active under various owners, including Dole Food Company, until closing in 1996, marking the end of sugarcane milling on Oahu. Today, the historic buildings are repurposed for shops and local businesses, keeping the area’s plantation history alive.
